GoDaddy is a very well known company. They have a large advertising budget and great brand awareness. Though most know them as a domain registrar, GoDaddy offers hosting, SSL certificates, and other related products.

They also have an affiliate program!

Perhaps not the best money-making program for hosting but the GoDaddy affiliate program can make you a few dollars on the registrations.

GoDaddy Affiliate Program

Commission structure: 15%

How to Join GoDaddy Affiliate Program

Commission Junction

You can join the GoDaddy program at Commission Junction (CJ).  A key advantage of the CJ program is that CJ provides for deep linking to any page at GoDaddy page. For instance, you can link to the GoDaddy bulk registration form where people search for multiple domains, hopefully earning you multiple commissions.

CJ offers advertisers automatic or manual review options for accepting new affiliates. GoDaddy is a manual review though almost all are accepted. The usual restrictions apply that sites with violence, fake coupons, etc. will not be accepted.

GoDaddy Products

I certainly associate GoDaddy with domain name registrations. They were one of the early registrars along with Network Solutions who were the very first domain name registrar. But GoDaddy has many other products, all part of the affiliate program, that may help you consider joining:

  • Hosting
  • WordPress Hosting
  • Premium domain sales and auctions
  • SSL Certificates
  • Malware Removal
  • Marketing Services
  • SEO Services

GoDaddy Affiliate Commission Rates and Rules

GoDaddy Affiliate Commission Rate

Well you probably aren’t going to get rich from the GoDaddy affiliate program. They pay a flat 10%-15% commission rate. This is fine for the registrations but for hosting referrals it is very low. Check out our profile of Hosting Affiliate Programs to get some ideas of higher-paying offers in hosting. It is also a one-time payment so even though the customer is paying monthly for many services like SEO and Marketing you are paid once.

GoDaddy offers a $100 bounty for most new web hosting plans as well.

GoDaddy Affiliate Rules

The usual rules regarding using their trademarks on your domain name or advertising apply. You also can not have a website that looks like GoDaddy’s or that otherwise might confuse a consumer. No cash-back offers and you can only use coupons provided to affiliates.

Affiliate Tools and Support

CJ provides over 100 banners, ads, coupons and other marketing materials for the GoDaddy affiliate program. Other marketing features include:

  • Integrated dashboard with your other CJ affiliate programs
  • Deep Links – link to any page at GoDaddy and add your affiliate ID for sales credit.
  • Promotions and other affiliate offers

How to Promote GoDaddy Online

Given the low transaction values I would not invest a lot of time and effort into this program. I would dovetail it with each of my hosting affiliate campaigns. The hosting campaigns are typically promoted  …:

  • Using Social
  • Promoted to your audience via email
  • With longtail keywords for SEO

Using the Commission Junction deep linking capability — I find that in-article text link call-to-actions convert best. Sure you can put an ad in your sidebar or a header banner on your pages. For me these do not convert as well as an in-context link in a review for instance. With deep links you can write an info post an a topic and link to relevant content at GoDaddy. Your affiliate ID can be associated with any GoDaddy link.

Should You Become a GoDaddy Affiliate?

With all those Superbowl ads and as the largest domain name registrar, GoDaddy is a huge brand. Too bad there are no huge commissions to go along with it.

Making money from becoming a GoDaddy affiliate would be best achieved if your audience is in the registration of domain names and parking  business. Or perhaps if you are on-boarding lots of new affiliates that need domain names.

Still, if you are already promoting hosting there is no downside to joining the program. At the end of the year, you may find you made a few hundred extra dollars.
