I love to read income reports. They are motivational and can give me new revenue ideas.

It is getting harder to find these as many successful affiliates and bloggers have stopped providing this information.

Here is a rundown of some successful sites, their business model and their stated income and expenses.

The list includes some smaller sites and some making over $1 million per year. There is a wide range of dates of these reports, but all are within the last few years.

The Bewitching Kitchen

A food blog with lots of recipes. One of the key take-aways from this income report is to keep a sharp eye on your expenses. With a total income stream of $6300+ there were $3300 in expenses. That’s around 53% of revenue.

Fatstacks Blog

Fatstacks is a hugely successful blog that gets most of their revenue from ads. They are proponents of writing information content targeted at lower competition keywords and scaling with outside writers.

Fatstacks makes some serious coin. Their income reports are a bit different in that they are reports of their own niche sites. They don’t report income from the blog itself which is likely substantial. They only make one site address actually public (Niche Site 8: Cyclebaron.com) which makes it harder to understand the content vs. revenue picture. But still hard to not be impressed by these numbers with almost all coming from ad revenue with the exception of Niche Site 2 which is affiliate revenue dominant.

  • Niche Site 1 Revenue: $68,122
  • Niche Site 2 Revenue: $4,666
  • Niche Site 3 Revenue: $458
  • Niche Site 4 Revenue: $1,823
  • Niche Site 5 Revenue: $93

CONTENT INVESTMENT
Fatstacks views content creation as more of a capital investment than expense so they list it separately. This is also what most sellers like Empire Flippers do when selling a site so it makes sense at this scale.

WriterAccess: $1,000
In-House writers: $4,978

PracticalWanderlust

Travel bloggers with well over 100K monthly viewers. They do an excellent job of multi-channel content marketing with the website, podcast, Facebook, Instagram and other channels.

Interesting to see the added expenses that travel bloggers have — traveling. Over $1800 of the $4300+ of income was consumed by travel expenses. Though I would say there is some personal benefit to that expense.

They have a good mix of affiliate income and ad revenue with some of their own products in the revenue mix. Some strategic comments in this month were …

  • Awin was top performing affiliate network
  • SkimLinks performed well and new revenue channel
  • Mediavine was a big success for ads

Fitnancials

Fitnancials is a smaller personal blog styled site. The focus is on women’s money issues and side-hustles with a side dose of healthy plant-based eating. An interesting combo.

They do a great job of monetizing a relatively small amount of traffic. They are a great example of not needing 100’s of thousands of monthly visitors to make money online. You just need to hustle.

Fintnancials actually made most of their money with sponsored posts. These are people who have sites that align well with yours and want to create a post on your site and get a backlink. There is some controversy with this as technically Google wants you to make that backlink nofollow or sponsored. The person paying for the sponsored post is often only interested in a dofollow link. Best to do these all as written by you and not have any mention of accepting sponsored posts on your site.

Affiliate income, ads and VA generated another $2400+. The $900 of VA work shows the spirit that is needed. Be willing to take on contracts and other work in your area of expertise as you grow.

Some successful strategies that are highlighted include:

  • Pinterest Infographics
  • Free resource library for email list building
  • Free “How to Start a Blog” email course for list building

Easy Baby Life

A baby blog with over 500k monthly page views. Most of the income is from Mediavine ads. They have a healthy RPM of $8.20. One thing of note is the lower expenses of this type of blog. They only spent $676 on over $4300 of revenue and ~$500 of that expense was for one-time purchases of some design work and Tailwind.
